Following
Following works the way it does on Instagram, not the way it does on Facebook: it's one-directional. You can follow someone without them following you back, and accepting a request makes that person a follower, not a mutual friend.

Groups
A group is a small room with its own chat and its own shared notebooks. Groups are for a study cohort, a lab group, three friends taking the same module — small enough that everyone recognises everyone.
What stays private
Your mastery, your scores, and your difficulty setting are never visible to anyone else, in a profile or in a group or in anything you share. What other people can see is that you showed up.
